This series actually started while stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in Seattle, WA. Heavy influence of local Indian hand carved salmon with lots of color. This was my inspiration.
From the many carvings I saw either in Seattle or British Columbia I started doodling small designs like these guys, but only in black and white.
At the time in my life mid 1990's was in pure hell and small, very small sketches was an escape, what to do with hundreds of small sketches?
All the little sketches in little sketch books stuffed away on a dusty shelf. While in Guam I didn't take my welding equipment and only made wood carvings, most don't even know this. Wood carvings are great but very time consuming, thus these paintings.
One day I'll show the wood carvings but not today. I like this one "El Toro".
So back to the story of going from wood carvings from little doodlings to these. ARTS ALIVE is my motivator, change it up every month everytime and peope will be back. Mr. Purple will see to that.
These sketches orginally started as my "Mask-A-Thon" show Oct 2017, make a copper mask just like the sketch 'cept the sketch was black and white.
So with the matter of changing it up every month adds yet another mixer to the art world that be mine. Hmm what to do? That's when the early morning idea hit, blast em with acrylic paint and show! Yea!
As most know I don't usually venture off this far in the paint world but this is too much fun not too.
Some may like and others may not, but that is Art.
Interesting to see the various versions in paper or wood.
Most of these are untitled too many to name which is the hardest part. So with that said when it's yours you name it what you like.
Think we've all seen this face before.
Fire Pit! Don't think I'd be messin with him anytime soon. Anyone?
Buck tooth Bill
These series will be on display for ARTS ALIVE - April 2018
All paintings are less than 11" X 8" and are mounted on black foam core ready for hanging no frame required.
